GIVE THE CANDIDATES SOME FRACK BACK!

Spring in Philly doesn't just bring some needed relief from this long winter; it also brings Democratic

candidates vying to be our next Governor into town. Come to the Community Forum for the Next Governor event this weekend to let our future Governors know that you expect real leadership on environmental issues affecting Pennsylvania. Currently, the gravest threat to PA's environment, public health, and public purse is unregulated gas fracking.

Moderated by Holly Otterbein of WHYY and Daniel Denvir of Philadelphia City Paper, you can catch our next Governor at this event and take the time to tell them face-to-face you expect them to halt new drilling permits and to keep PA livable for current and future generations. All the Democratic candidates for Governor support a moratorium on drilling on state lands and would levy some tax on drilling. Unfortunately, none of them is in line with their own State Democratic Party or the majority of Pennsylvanians who support a STATEWIDE moratorium on fracking.

However, NONE of the candidates have pledged to support a halt to new drilling permits, which would be necessary while their proposed regulations and tax policies are implemented and evaluated. Fracking has not proven to be a practice that can be done safely, yet Pennsylvania continues to permit new drilling as the rest of the country and world increasingly act to halt or permanently ban the practice.

The event is free, but it's necessary to register in advance online. Light refreshments will be served, the space is handicapped accessible and childcare is available!

FIGHT THE PRIVATIZATION OF PGW!

Jillian Stokes, Community Outreach Coordinator of Food & Water Watch, just announced the coalition to Keep Philadelphia Gas Works a publicly held utility, in an action at the March 13th Philadelphia City Council meeting. We hope to show City Council that residents and organizations oppose the privatization of PGW. Not only is this an incredibly bad idea, it potentially opens the door to Philadelphia becoming a fracked gas export terminal, an environmental disaster in the making.
This will be the first city council meeting following Mayor Nutter's announcement of the winning bid, so we need a strong turnout to squash this deal before it gains any more momentum. Join us in standing with our coalition in support of PGW remaining a public utility!
