On August 3, 2015 President Obama and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Clean Power Plan (CPP) to reduce power plant carbon emissions 32% by 2030 (from 2005 levels). The CPP represents an important first step by the United States government in confronting climate change, but it doesn't go far enough. That's why the Climate Justice Alliance (CJA) has issued a frontline Environmental Justice (EJ) community response to the CPP, called the Our Power Plan.
And that's where you come in. Stand with Encouraging the Development of a Green Economy (EDGE) and Climate Justice Alliance to send a message to our state policy makers that the Clean Power Plan is not enough! The rally and press conference will be held at the EPA region State office ant 1650 Arch Streets in Downtown Philadelphia. Activists will go inside to meet with EPA officials and deliver their Our Power Plan Report
“Missing from the EPA’s picture is how our frontline communities are also the source of clean energy innovation and cutting-edge economic and environmental policy,” added Elizabeth Sanders, a leader with CJA member Kentuckians for the Commonwealth. “We are already blazing a clean energy trail across the country. The Clean Power Plan should be an important point of leverage to grow the seeds Our Power Campaign leaders have already planted.”
