VEGFEST COMES TO PHILLY!

Celebrate the summer, fresh produce and meat-free goodness all at once! The Humane League of Philadelphia is sponsoring Philly Vegfest, the area's first all-vegetable, open-air food event. This 100% FREE event will feature all kinds of vegetarian foods, vegan cooking demos,  health and nutritional information and more. With vendors ranging from Weaver's Way, the Fanciful Fox, Mom's Organic Market, the American Vegan Society and Blackbird Pizza, this event celebrates the wonderful veg food available in the Delaware Valley  and the myriad benefits of a plant-based diet.

Philadelphia Global Water Initiative Conference

Registration for the Philadelphia Global Water Initiative's 7th Annual Conference is still open!  The theme of this year's event is "Urban Water Solutions for the Developing World".  Kusum Athukorala has been announced as the keynote speaker.  She is the chair of NetWater and also the Sri Lanka Water Partnership.  In 2012, she was the recipient of the Women and Water Award by the International Water Association.

PHILLY SPRING CLEANUP DAY WITH PHILLYGREENBLOG.ORG!

Julie Hancher, green blogger extraordinaire and founder of GreenPhillyBlog.com, is hosting a Park Cleanup this Saturday, April 5th from 10 AM - 1 PM at the community field at 8th & Poplar in Northern Liberties. Many people play intermural sports leagues here so the fields get dirty often. 

She'll have FREE breakfast (bagels and coffee) for volunteers in the AM and will supply shovels, rakes, gloves & trash bags to clean up. If you can bring a spare clean up tool (shovels and bags) to lend for the event, it’ll be very much appreciated.

OUR PARKS NEED YOUR SUPPORT...TODAY!

Join the Friends of the Wissahickon and the Philadelphia Parks Alliance today at the City Council Operating Budget Hearing at City Hall. Parks & Recreation isstill $5 million short of
the approved budget for FY 2009, and we need to close that gap for FY 2015! Commissioner Michael DiBerardinis will be testifying and we want to pack Council chambers with Park and Recreation advocates from every neighborhood in the city.

Come out and  show your strong and organized support for an increase in budget allocations. While Mayor Nutter’s proposed increase of $500,000 for programming in FY 2015 is a good start, it’s not enough. We need them to invest in programming and restore the remaining $5 million!
