DVS CITIZENS’ CLIMATE LOBBY 2016 MID-ATLANTIC REGIONAL CONFERENCE

Preventing the most catastrophic global impacts of climate change will require strong action by the US Congress.  The Citizens’ Climate Lobby 2016 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference is training ordinary citizens to initiate a transformation of the global economy to one that allows for a safe and healthy future. CCL’s goal is to generate the political will necessary for passage of our Carbon Fee and Dividend proposal, and to empower individual volunteers to engage elected officials, the media and the public.

Citizens’ Climate Lobby is a fast-growing national grassroots organization that is building bipartisan support in Congress to address the world-wide disruption inflicted by climate change. With an increasingly influential voice, CCL advocates for reducing greenhouse gas pollution through a revenue neutral pollution fee imposed on carbon energy sources, with all the money returned to American households.

108 Scientists Call On World’s Largest Earth Science Organization To Reject ExxonMobil Sponsorship

Today, more than 100  geoscientists sent a letter to the President of the American Geophysical Union (AGU) - the world’s largest association of Earth scientists - calling for an end to ExxonMobil sponsorship of AGU in a stand against climate science disinformation.

 “As Earth scientists, we are deeply troubled by the well-documented complicity of ExxonMobil in climate denial and misinformation…By allowing Exxon to appropriate AGU’s institutional social license to help legitimize the company’s climate misinformation, AGU is undermining its stated values as well as the work of many of its own members,” states the letter.

 In fact, AGU’s own Organizational Support Policy states that “AGU will not accept funding from organizational partners that promote and/or disseminate misinformation of science, or that fund organizations that publicly promote misinformation of science.” Despite this claim, the nearly 24,000 attendees of the AGU 2015 Fall meeting were greeted by a prominent display of gratitude for Exxon’s sponsorship.

Signatories include leading AGU-member scientists such as former Director of the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies and renowned climatologist Professor James E. Hansen, former President of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and Harvard Professor James J. McCarthy, Penn State’s Earth System Science Center director Michael E. Mann, and author of Merchants of Doubt and Harvard Professor Naomi Oreskes, as well as other concerned geoscientists including Professor Hans Schellnhuber, CBE, who currently serves as Chair of the German government’s Advisory Council on Global Change and as a climate advisor to the Pope.

PennEnvironment’s Montgomery County Clean Power Plan Forum

a free educational forum on climate action for PA, and invites YOU to join them.

 This is a critical time to show strong support for action on climate change. Last week the Supreme Court issued a temporary halt on EPA's Clean Power Plan—one of the key efforts to reduce carbon pollution and the impacts of climate change. They're going to be discussing this and more at their forum in Norristown with local experts, including Montgomery County’s Commissioner Dr. Arkoosh. They will also discuss how the state can implement a plan that drives renewable energy forward.

9th Annual Student Conference on Global Challenges

Our contemporary concept of sustainability is impacted by both innovations in science and engineering, along with shifting social and political forces. To address this, Drexel University's  Office of International Programs is hosting the 9th Annual Student Conference on Global Challenge, with this year's focus on Sustainability issues.

This conference offers students opportunities to share their research and engage in critical reflection and dialogue on how sustainability is shaping our global context within the diverse disciplines of health, education, science, human rights, medicine, law, media, economics, politics, development and history. With six global  topic panels, ranging from global justice and health to business and economic trends,  this is an excellent opportunity for students to gain experience presenting on an academic panel about one of the world’s most pressing issues. Apply online to present on a panel or register to attend the conference. The student conference is free, open to the public and will include breakfast, lunch, and a networking reception with raffle prizes.

Spring Garden Street is a vital link in the East Coast Greenway and Circuit system of trails, and a key in connecting Philadelphia’s two river fronts. Help celebrate great urban transit design and your own significant other by joining them on a ride along this corridor to Winterfest, another of Philadelphia's recent successes in reclaiming essential spaces.

The Wissahickon Valley Watershed Association (WVWA) asks you to join them for a screening of  "Just Eat It."
The next film in the PFEC Sustainability Film Series hosted by Pennypack Farm & Education Center, "Just Eat It"  is a documentary about food waste and food rescue. With our obsession with expiration dates, food portions an sizes, we still waste nearly 50% of our available food.  After seeing the billions of dollars of good food that is tossed each year in North America, filmmakers  Jen Rustemeyer  and Grant Baldwin pledged to quit grocery shopping cold turkey, and survive only on foods that would otherwise be thrown away. In a nation where one in 10 people is food insecure, "Just Eat It" brings farmers, retailers, inspiring organizations, and consumers to the table in a cinematic story that is equal parts education and delicious entertainment.
