DRILL THE ARCTIC? HELL NO!

File this under Incredibly Bad and Shortsighted Ideas: according to  an Energy Department
advisory council,  the U.S. should immediately start drilling for oil in the Arctic waters off of Alaska, in order to avoid relying on foreign oil in the future. The Arctic holds 1/4th of the world’s undiscovered oil and gas deposits which could yield 35 billion barrels, or only 5 years’ worth of U.S. oil consumption and 15 years of U.S. imports.

Coincidentally (and I hope sarcasm comes across here), the study just happened to be produced by the National Petroleum Council at the specific request of Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz. Cat minding the canary, anyone?

On Monday, March 9, The Green Hour Radio team on PANJ Radio will be looking at preserving  to coincide with the important NJ Land Rally on March 6th, 2015.  As guests, we will another excellent panel with Greg Romano (NJ Conservation Foundation), Linda Mead (D & R Greenway Land Trust) and Jeff Marshall (Heritage Conservancy). Preserving land from over-development is important to the health of our rivers; NJ in particular faces severe pressure on its remaining open space.  What are those pressures and how should we react?  What is being done, what are the benefits of open space  and why should you take an interest?  What sort of landscape do we want to leave our kids?

SUPPORT E.D.G.E. PHILLY IN BANNING FRACKING IN PA!

E.D.G.E. Philly is an anti-fracking group in Philly comprised of both people new to
activism and folks who have been fighting fracking in PA for years. They're fighting the expansion of fracking in PA and are organizing to prevent further development of fracked-fossil fuel infrastructure that could turn Philly into a processing and export hub.

They're running a small fundraiser campaign on Indegogo to cover the cost of materials for their projects and actions. Make a donation and help them keep Philly frack free and make sure to click on, comment or interact with their Indegogo page.
