SIERRA CLUB WALKING TOUR

Join the Sierra Club on November 19th for a special walking tour of green infrastructure sites in
Philadelphia!

Philadelphia has made some great strides over the last few years to best use, reuse and manage our water and energy resources. I’d like to invite you to join us to appreciate some of our greatest innovations, and prepare to help us devise more!

You will see rain gardens, tree trenches, rainwater cisterns, a green roof, porous pavement, and a large stormwater bumpout, as well as a geothermal field, no-mow turf, a spray park, and water-themed murals. There will also be a short presentation on our new Philly Climate Works program!

This walking tour will explore numerous Green Stormwater Infrastructure projects on the grounds of Kensington High School for the Creative and Performing Arts and Shissler Recreation Center. This high school is the first LEED-platinum certified public high school in the nation, constructed on a former brownfield site. This 90-minute outdoor walking tour will be lead by a watershed educator with Philadelphia Water.
 
The walking tour loop route is approximately 1.5 miles. Children over eight are welcome with parent or legal guardian. Space is limited, so please do not register unless you know you can attend!

They'll be covering the PRPA building with personalized sticky notes stating our personal reasons for resisting fossil fuels at Southport. You can participate in their 'speak-out', where we'll be sharing stories of why fossil fuel expansion would be negative, how we're acting and organizing as part of our movement, and pledges for continued action.

The time is now to demonstrate our ongoing fight to oppose fossil fuels in Philly, and to remind the PRPA board that we will not stand for a bad decision on fossil fuel expansion at Southport!

Furnishing a Future is a NextFab-based nonprofit helping formerly homeless individuals feel comfortable while getting returning citizens jobs. The five-week program has returning citizens and veterans assemble furniture for homeless individuals transitioning to affordable housing.

Just officially begun a week ago, the company has support from a number of nonprofits, government agencies and companies such as R.I.S.E.Ready Willing & AbleIKEAVeterans Multi-Service Center and Impact Services.
